Major changes to public health orders expected after crisis cabinet meeting

Major changes to the Public Health Orders in NSW are being drafted after a crisis cabinet meeting this afternoon.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller and Police Minister David Elliott appeared before the meeting arguing the orders were difficult to enforce and needed to be more effective.

Three major changes are expected in the next 48 hours.

The first is an amendment to the rule that currently allows people to travel to a second residence outside of locked-down Sydney.

There are concerns this is how the virus is spreading into regional NSW.

Secondly, the NSW Government will request additional ADF support from the Commonwealth to assist with compliance.

The third proposed change will relate to the singles bubble - which allows two people who both live alone to visit each other at home.

It will still exist but will be amended to help police determine whether people are properly complying with it.

The NSW Police and its legal team will redraft the health orders over the next two days.
