Teenager to stand trial for murder over couple's death at Alexandra Hills

A teenager has been committed to stand trial for murder over the deaths of an expectant couple in Brisbane in January.

It's alleged the 17-year-old boy was under the influence and driving a stolen car when Kate Leadbetter and Matthew Field were fatally struck mowed down while walking their dogs at Alexandra Hills on Australia Day.

The teenager, who recently turned 18 in youth detention, cannot be named for legal reasons.

The family of slain Alexandra Hills's parents to be Kate Leadbetter and Matthew Field have released a new song dedicated to the couple.

Making a statement through his lawyers today to the court, the teenager accepted his "manner of driving on the day in question ... caused the deaths of Ms Leadbetter and Mr Field."

"He has communicated that to the prosecuting authorities, even at this very early stage," Barrister Ruth O'Gormon said on behalf of her client.

"He further instructs that he is profoundly sorry and remorseful for what occurred.

"However, he disputes that he knew that by his manner of driving, he would probably cause those deaths."

The teenager faces a string of charges, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of tainted property.

The teenager will face a jury trial in Brisbane's Supreme Court on a date to be set.
