Victoria continues virus-free streak

Victoria has recorded its eleventh consecutive day without a locally-acquired COVID-19 case.

In the past 24 hours to midnight, more than 23,000 Victorians came forward to be tested for the virus and almost 13,000 vaccine doses were administered.

No cases were recorded in overseas travellers currently in hotel quarantine and the state is still managing 20 active cases of the virus.

It comes as Victorian authorities consider implementing a hard border closure with all of New South Wales over fears the current Sydney cluster could cross state lines.

Currently anybody who returns from a "red zone" – such as Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Shellharbour, Blue Mountains or Wollongong – must get tested and isolate for 14 days.

Health Minister Martin Foley has urged Victorians to avoid travelling to NSW as harder border measures could be introduced at any moment.

"We might well see tougher arrangements apply across NSW as their position becomes more precarious," he said.

"While regional NSW remains orange, we are concerned about leakage of the virus from the Greater Sydney area.

"If you are Victorian, don't travel to NSW."
