A mob of angry residents has beaten a suspected female kidnapper to death in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State, after she allegedly attempted to abduct some children in the community.
NaijaGistReporters learnt that the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was caught on Thursday and a mob prevented her from being taken to the police station.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly disguised as a beggar and had been seen around some houses begging for alms in the area on previous days before she was alleged to have attempted to abduct some children on Thursday.
A resident of the area noted that the woman, at other times, disguised as a mentally unstable person.
She said, “The woman had always been disguising to be a mentally unstable, begging for things from people, and according to those who saw her, it was not her first time.
“Just last week, there were reports of more than two children missing in the area and they have not yet been found. Even young and elderly women in the area were aggrieved and joined in the mobbing of the woman. Everyone has been angry about the way these kidnappers had been coming to our area.
“They hit her with stones and anything they could get their hands on. On Thursday, she was caught trying to give a fruit, Agbalumo, to some young children. Immediately, she was caught, an angry mob started to beat her. The lady was dragged away by the mob which also tied her with ropes and burnt her on a nearby bridge,” another resident said.

There has been tension in Agbonchia community in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State after Fulani herdsmen invaded the area, destroying farmlands and assaulting the residents.
NaijaGistReporters learnt that the invasion started on Monday with residents deserting the area gradually due to the fear of the killer herdsmen, who reportedly also raped some women in the community.

Some of the residents told NaijaGistReporters that a massive peaceful protest is being carried out today, Friday, to force the attention of the state and federal government to the community which is presently under herdsmen’s siege.
“Right now, farms in Agbonchia have been taken over by Fulani herdsmen. Our women are crying in the farms. To return home is almost impossible. Everyone is angry. We are protesting. This is not a fable. I am there now witnessing this assault.
“All the Agbonchia men and women both young and old have decided not to go to work on Friday. We are marching in our numbers to the Eleme Local Government Area headquarters to protest and ask the Fulani herdsmen to leave our land. We started marching since 8am,” a resident explained.
“This incident started since Monday this week. That was when they invaded Agbonchia. They invaded our entire farms and raped our women. They put their cows in our cassava farms to eat and they cut one of the okada riders (commercial motorcyclists) with a machete and took his bike from him. There is serious confusion at the moment,” another aggrieved resident said.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Adams has revealed that leaders of the South-West have brought all the relevant security outfits together to secure the region.
According to him, hunters, members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Agbekoya members have been mandated to ensure security of lives and property in the region.

Adams, who stated this when he paid a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday, said their discussions centred on issues related to the security and economy of the South-West.
He said: “I met the governor of Ekiti State two days ago and now, I am meeting the Oyo State governor.
“It is very important that we interface on the prevailing issues within our region, especially that of security. What we are witnessing now is alien to our history. Yoruba nation has been in existence for more than 8,000 years, I mean the Western region.
“We had a fruitful meeting. I can tell you that we are on the same page that Oyo State and the entire South-West should be in peace and harmony.
“The issue of agriculture was also part of our discussion. The two governors have told me their own parts and strategies, especially on the basis of private initiative. I want to assure that we too will play our own part to bring investors to partner with them.
“We have more confidence to complement the effort of the community. We have brought all the relevant security outfits together; hunters, OPC members, Agbekoya members. We are bringing them together so that we can have effective security in our environment.”
Famous Yoruba Historian, Prof Banji Akintoye alongside freedom fighter Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), had earlier declared the sovereignty of the Yoruba nation.
In a video circulating the social media, Akintoye and Igboho, along with some Yoruba leaders stated that the Yoruba nation could be independent and yet, thrive.
Professor Banji Akintoye said the most important thing for the Yoruba nation is to learn to work towards its sovereignty.
According to him, this is not a time to discuss issues surrounding restructuring, resource control or a new constitution but rather to secede from Nigeria.
“We have declared that sovereignty now but we must work together. We have just talked about what the Yoruba nation is suffering from in Nigeria. There should be no reason why we cannot all work together to extricate ourselves from this rubble that Nigeria has become."
Igboho, who also spoke at the conference, said the South-West states were no longer under Nigeria.
In the video, he encouraged Yoruba people living in other parts of the country to return to the South-West region.
Igboho said the Yoruba kingdom was united in the latest agitation, and had the backing of all its traditional leaders. He challenged any Yoruba ruler who did not support him to openly refute his claims.
He said, “All the Yoruba youths in this land support our father (Banji Akintoye). We are in support because we know that these are our real fathers who understand that we are fighting for our rights against people that are disturbing us on our land. If we meet any Fulani herdsman, we are ready to face and destroy them starting from now. If any policeman attacks us for that, we are ready for them.”

The Kwara State Government has threatened to sanction teachers and workers of 10 mission schools earlier shut down in Ilorin with sanctions over the hijab crisis in the state, if they fail to resume by today, Friday.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara state Teaching Service Commission, Malam Bello Abubakar, issued the directive in a statement in Ilorin on Thursday.

“Any staff who fails to report for duty will face the full wrath of the law, as the state government will not condone any act of insurbordination,” he noted.
Abubakar was silent on any measure the state government had put in place to quell the brewing religious crisis.
In the statement by the Press Secretary of the commission, Amogbonjaye Peter, the chairman, said, “The teachers’ resumption has become necessary in order to prepare the final-year students for their external examinations.”
Bello warned all stakeholders against taking the law into their hands, adding that a peace meeting, which had failed to yield any tangible results, would still continue between the government and the stakeholders.
The chairman added, “The government regrets the inconveniences the shutdown might have caused the students, explaining that the action was taken in the interest of peace.”
Bello, appealed to parents and members of the public to remain calm as the government was on top of the situation since its meeting with stakeholders was still ongoing.
According to Daily Post, the directive to resume may not be unconnected with the resolve of the Christian community leaders to defy the government’s directive and sustain their resistance against the use of the hijab and the demand to return mission schools to their original owners.
However, the state government is contesting the stance of the Christian community saying, there will be no compromise on the demands as the government had taken over the schools since 1974, with the backing of the Nigerian constitution and Kwara State laws.
Although the matter of the hijab use is still in court, the government went ahead a few weeks ago to state that hijab should be allowed in all schools in the state.

Members of the Isoko North Local Government Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta state, popularly known as Ogwo, engaged in fisticuffs at the country home of a former minority leader and member representing Isoko federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Leo Ogor, over N1 million provided for visitors to share.
NaijaGistReporters gathered that the fight broke out on Monday afternoon shortly after the party's primaries held at its secretariat, Ozoro, to choose the Isoko North constituency candidate that will fly the party's flag during the April 10, 2021 bye-election to replace the late House of Assembly majority leader, Tim Owhefere as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Our correspondent gathered that the party chairman, Godwin Ogorugba, Leo Ogor's younger brother, Jay Ogor, government functionaries, party leaders, Elders, and the party's House of Assembly bye-election candidate, Jude Ogbimi, had moved from the party's secretariat to the country home of the lawmaker for a reception when the fight broke out.
Narrating the ugly incident to SaharaReporters, a delegate who attended the reception, disclosed that the party's women leader was almost naked following how she was beaten.
The source said her clothes were torn by some of the party youths who invaded the reception to cart away the money, also known as kola nut wedges.
"On arrival at the reception at Ogor's home, some prominent party members and government officials from the local government area decided to give out kola nut and over a million naira and all the prominent party members and government officials left almost immediately to attend a meeting at the home of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Ovuozorie Macau lay, at Owhelogbo.
"However, Hon. Leo Ogor was not in town when his home was used for the reception. As our prominent party members and government officials from the local government left, we commenced the disbursement of the kola nut and money to wards and some of the party youths stormed the place and began to fight over the money and it led to a free for all. At this time the party women leader, Ogwo, had grabbed the money and hid it in her private parts for safety.
"But surprisedly, the youths still turned to her, grabbed her and started beating her, torn her clothes, almost stripped her naked completely and people began to run for their lives. The women leader was later given clothes to wear home by a good Samaritan and member of the party who also attended the reception. But the good thing was that the youths did not succeed in taking away the kola-nut money."
Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered that 147 delegates had earlier complained bitterly during the party's primaries because of the N20,000 each of them was given to cast their vote for the party's House of Assembly bye-election candidate, Jude Ogbimi, who happens to be the sole candidate.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that banditry may not end in the country because the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government has continued the politicisation of security.
Wike said by politicising insecurity, the APC government plunged the security troubled states into an unimaginable banditry scale that may not end soon.

The governor disclosed this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri.
Wike explained that when Rivers experienced insecurity in 2015, he ran to the federal government but instead of getting their support, they dismissed it because they want to make the state remain ungovernable.
He said: "They didn't send special forces to Rivers as they're sending to other states now. They refused to support me because they didn't want the state to be governable.
"Crime knows no boundary. It can be you tomorrow. If they had shown zeal to fight crime, irrespective of the party you belong to, a good result would be achieved.
"Banditry will never end since they've politicised the issue of security. I told them don't politicise issues of security.
"They're paying the price. Whatever you sow, you will reap. If you sow peace, you'll reap peace; if you sow trouble, trouble will always be with you."
The cybercrime cell of Vadodara police on Wednesday, arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian, Elvis Owie, for duping a trader of Rs 22.67 lakh (N11 million).
The accused, Owie was nabbed from Mumbai after the cops tracked him down through the bank account number.

The police said he posed as a trader and duped one Mayank Shah by promising to deliver chemicals to him.
According to cybercrime officials, Shah, a trader, had received an email on December 11, 2020, wherein the sender wrote that he wanted to buy a chemical for cancer and neurological treatment from India.
The next day, Shah again got an email asking him to get a quotation from Archana Enterprises and send it to the buyer. Shah sent a quotation following which he got an email from Tikomed AB Company to place an order for the chemical. Shah then transferred Rs 89,000 to Archana Enterprises bank account for getting a sample of the chemical.
The complainant got sample material following which he placed a bigger order and transferred Rs 22.67 lakh in three separate instalments to Archana Enterprises.
Shah got 10 litres of chemicals but expressed doubts over its authenticity before the police. After the WhatsApp number on which Shah was in touch with the accused was blocked and he also didn’t get any reply on the email ID, Shah approached the cops.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Jaydeepsinh Jadeja said, "We tracked the accused based on bank account number and other technical sources. We are questioning the accused and trying to ascertain if there are any other persons involved in the racket.”
Investigating officials said Owie may have been involved in similar crimes in the past.
“Many of them now operate individually from different cities,” Jadeja added.
